It’s fair to say that 2020 was a bit of a disaster for weddings and with lockdown still partly in force it’s hard to know when things will truly get back to normal again.
But whether you’re planning on getting married this year or next, it shouldn’t stop you doing one of the most important bits of shopping for your big day. No, we’re not talking about the dress, we are talking about your wedding jewellery! And why is it so important? Well, it’s probably the only thing from your wedding day that you will get to wear time and time again, so why wouldn’t you want to spend the time and effort getting it right?
If you’re not 100% sure where to start, here are some tips on what you should consider before you take the plunge.
Remember your wedding dress is the real statement
Your wedding dress is probably the most important dress you will ever wear, so any jewellery should enhance your dress and not over-power it. We would always recommend you buy your dress first as the style, amount of detail and even the colour will have an impact on the jewellery you buy.
We would also recommend you stick with one colour rather, than say, mixing white and yellow gold. This will give your wedding outfit a more cohesive and stylish look. We just love this elegant and sophisticated pearl and diamond necklace and earring set.
Don’t overdo your wedding jewellery
“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off”.
You’re probably all heard that famous quote from Coco Chanel, and it’s never more true than on your wedding day. While it might be tempting to wear a necklace, earrings, bracelets, rings, tiara, watch, something old, and something new – remember less really is more. Just because it’s your big day doesn’t mean you have to go big on the jewellery. In fact, it’s often better to focus on one statement piece and then, if you want to, complement it with a few smaller pieces. For example, this diamond necklace would add the wow to any wedding dress and definitely shouldn’t have to compete with any other jewellery items.
And remember, you can always change your jewellery for the reception and then really go to town!
Buy wedding jewellery you like
Your wedding is not the time to try out big dangly earrings, if you normally wear studs, or wear a big statement necklace, if you tend to wear more delicate items. And whatever you do don’t be swayed by the latest wedding jewellery trends or what your mum or best friend think!
Only select pieces that you feel comfortable wearing. After all, the last thing you want is to feel ill at ease on your big day.
Don’t leave buying your wedding jewellery until the last minute
Wedding jewellery is so much more than just another accessory. It’s something that is going to bring your whole outfit together and take special to spectacular.
And, it’s also something that will hopefully be with you a lifetime and will become a much-loved heirloom. And who wouldn’t want this stunning diamond earring and necklace set one day!

Watch your jewellery budget
While your wedding jewellery will last a lifetime, the last thing you want is to blow your budget and then regret it. So, when you are working out your wedding budget, identify your priorities first. Is it more important to have a bigger guest list, or a diamond necklace? Would you rather have your dream venue or your dream diamond earrings? If you’re in a position where you can have both, that’s great, but if not, it’s wise to be a bit realistic before you go wedding day jewellery shopping.
